The Easiest Way to Practice Gratitude

Wake up by thinking about all the things you are grateful for and then each night, do the same. This will frame your day because the first and last things you’re doing every day is giving thanks and appreciating what you have in your life.

What other ways do you practice gratitude?

Random Acts of Kindness

This is a wonderful way to spread Joy anonymously so it’s fun because you know that some stranger is going to be surprised by your random act of kindness. Doing things to make someone—anyone feel good is going to give you a lot of joy. It’s almost like a secret way to spread joy in the world!

Occupy Joy

Why do we need to focus on Joy?

We are continually bombarded by negative news. It’s hard not to get depressed if you listen too closely. I know that choosing to focus on the joy in your life will only bring more joy into it. It really begins with us first. When you feel joy, you will spread joy to those around you and make them feel better too. Like a pebble dropped into the water, making a conscious decision to live a joyous life will have positive ripple effects in your whole life.

That’s why we decided to start the Joy Movement. If we can bring a higher awareness to choosing to focus on those things that give you joy, we are certain it’ll have a great ripple effect on our families and communities. And if enough people join, it can have some wonderful effects on our society and our world!

Since we have started a Joy Movement, we were curious to see how people are really feeling. We decided to do some market research and created a Joy Survey to see what really makes people happy and joyful in their lives. Over 700 people responded and the final results were not so unexpected but rather it was good to get confirmation. The first question we asked was what the top five things were that brought joy into their lives.

The top answers for what makes people happy are:
Children/Grandchildren/Family 67.2%
Friends 57.1%
Marriage/Relationship/Intimacy 55.7%
Faith/Religion/Spirituality 52.5%
Health/Well Being 48.1%

Then we asked to choose the #1 thing that brings the greatest joy in their lives:
Children/Grandchildren 28.9%
God/Faith/Religion/Spirituality 25.4%

It is interesting to see confirmation of how important our children, families, and relationships are. That tells us that as human beings we have a natural need to be connected to others on a meaningful level.

The lowest answers for both questions were how much money you earn (6.2%) and Job/Career/Business (0.9%). Yet how much of our time are we thinking about or worrying about these two areas of our lives? It’s worth reflecting on a bit so that we really do focus on what makes us happy and joyful in our lives.

The last question we asked was “do you consider yourself to be a happy, joyful person?” Here 56.6% replied often, most of the time but not always. Another 30% said that yes, always, I see the good in everything. Only 11.2% answered sometimes, about 50-50 and 2.2% answered no, not at all. This shows that 86.6% of the people surveyed consider themselves happy and joyful most of the time or more.

Why isn’t this reflected in the media? It’s great to hear that so many people feel positive about their lives. Part of our Joy Movement is to bring a greater awareness that you can live a joyful life. If the majority of people already are feeling pretty good, then we should celebrate and show the people who may not be feeling quite so joyful that it is possible for them too. Giving joy to others is just one of the ways we recommend that you can have more joy in your life.

What are you doing to live a joyous life? What are your thoughts focused in on most of the time? And how can you bring more joy into your life? These are questions we want to hear your answers to. Please come by www.BringingJoyToTheWorld.com/joymovement and join our community so that you can join other like minded joy seekers. Here’s to living joyfully!

The Power of Joy

Joy is love and happiness put together. But what can joy do for you? It can truly transform your life! We are facing times now that doing things we simply do not like is not going to be sustainable. I think that is a big reason as to why so many people are facing big career challenges with being laid off and the unemployment rates going so high.

It’s time to take responsibility for our lives and to figure out our true purpose and what we absolutely love to do. There is an incredible surge of entreprenuers now because so many people are taking their lives into their own hands. They are figuring out the gifts they have to offer the world and getting out there. The internet gives us all the same advantages of figuring out how to reach your ideal people globally.

It has amazed me to have clients working with me from 3 different continents, several different countries, and how they found me—the internet! We are living in a time where information is king and it’s those people who know what they are passionate about, and can communicate it to the market, that are doing well regardless of the economic climate. When I worked in executive search, I’d coach people all the time on their next career move. One option that a lot of people didn’t think about was becoming an entreprenuer. I understand because I have also been in a position where my best choice was what I call “forced entreprenuership”. I moved to a country where I didn’t speak the language fluently but needed to work. I ended up starting up my own business and although it was scary, it absolutely felt like the right step for me.

I’m not saying that becoming an entreprenuer is right for everyone. But I do believe we all should be seeking the things that make us happy. What are the things that bring you joy in your life? And how can you fill your life with those things?

It is proven that when you feel good, your physical health improves, your energy levels increase, and your immune system is stronger. Part of this shifting world is that we need to start within ourselves first, and then continue outward towards our families, our friends, and our communities. It’s time to build the life of your dreams and also the world of our dreams. A big ingredient for this is having more joy in our lives. Again, joy is equal to love and happiness put together—it’s a higher state of being. Joy gives us the power to reclaim our lives and create all that we desire!

10 Easy Ways to Be Joyful

Our lives are so busy we sometimes forget to stop and enjoy the small things in life. I’ve put together 10 easy ways add more happiness to your life today! And I’ve thrown in a bonus tip!

Here’s your simple steps for joy:

1. DECIDE that you want to live your life with more joy and happiness. This may sound basic and it is, but so many people are simply unclear in their own minds about what they want. As soon as you become clear, you can “place an order” with the Universe and consciously begin to create the life you truly desire to have.

2. Figure out what you love to do and then do it! This is all about discovering what you are passionate about and putting it into your life. When you love doing something, you will lose all track of time, your heart is happy, and you feel a huge sense of satisfaction. Whether it’s the people you spend time with, the work you choose to do, or the hobbies that you might spend your free time on, the more you can make sure your days include those things you love, the easier it will be to live a joyous life.

3. Write a Joy List that includes the things that bring joy in your life.
It is possible that you have not identified what you love to do so in that case, take some time to write down a list of things that you love doing. Write down things that you can do in 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, one hour, a half day, and a full day. Then when you feel yourself feeling down, you can consult your list and depending on how much time you can manage, put something that you love doing into the day. This can be a fast way to start feeling better and it makes you very conscious of making sure you do have joy in your day.

4. Practice gratitude and appreciation as often as you can! Appreciation is one of the easiest ways to feel better right away. No matter what is going on in your life, you can always find something to be grateful for so use this technique often! When you start to appreciate those things you do have in your life, these will expand as you focus more on it. This is how the Law of Appreciation works.

5. Spend time with someone you love and tell them how much they mean to you! It is natural as human beings to want to connect with others. We are a social creature and need to both give and receive love. Giving your love to others will brighten their day and make you feel good. Letting that person know how much they mean is so important. Do not assume that they know—and even if they do know, it’s always nice to hear that again, out loud, and often!

6. Go outside and enjoy the day and the energy we get from our planet. We only have one Earth and we need to take care of it! We receive so many gifts from this planet that we unfortunately often take for granted. We also tend to spend so much of our time indoors and we’ve become very disconnected from the rhythms of nature. Spending time outside gives us energy, particularly when you are enjoying the beauty of nature. Whether it’s at the beach, in the mountains, in a forest, or just at your local park, go and just appreciate the amazing world we live in.

7. Give to others who do not have it as good as you do. Volunteer your time to a worthy cause that you believe in. When you can give to others and improve someone else’s life in some way, it will naturally make you feel good because you’ve had a positive impact on someone else’s life. Whether you help others you know or total strangers doesn’t matter, just the act of helping some else in need will automatically raise up your energy and make you feel better too. Find a worthy charity or cause that you can get involved in…and this means more than just writing a check. Take an action where you can connect to others to see how you’ve made a difference. This is meant to be an active, not passive, activity because it is in the connecting to others that you will feel the difference you really made in someone else’s life.

8. The shortest distance between two people is a smile. Smile to all those you meet. This is something so basic yet so easily forgotten as we get wrapped up in all the doing and stress of our daily lives. Sharing a smile with another human being connected you and leaves all barriers behind. It’s an automatic reaction that someone will smile back at you. So be generous with your smiles and give as many away every day that you can. Besides, it’s proven that people who smile more live longer and healthier lives!

9. Commit random acts of kindness to make others feel good. Doing something nice for someone you’ll never know has it’s magic too. You know the person that receives your gift will be first surprised, and then happy, and then spend time wondering who on earth could have done such a kind thing. Receiving an unexpected gift will always brighten your day and when you know you’ve given someone that surprise, without them knowing who it came from, will make you feel great—like someone with a big secret that will make you happy too. This is a great practice. Keep it simple by leaving your neighbor some flowers on her doorstep, or paying the toll for the five people behind you, or leaving a very nice, inspiring poem on someone’s windshield. There really are no limits with this one! Creativity rules so have lots of fun with this one! And share your stories with us on how it made you feel!

10. Think of all the good things that happened each day before you go to bed. As you wake up in the morning, before you get out of bed, set the intention for having a great day too. This is a very good habit to form! First practice gratitude as the last thing you do each day by recalling the good things from each day. Time is the one thing we all have the same amount of and once a day is gone, it’s gone forever! So train yourself to appreciate all the good from each day (this is a great exercise to do with your kids every night too!). When you do this at night, you’ll generally wake up in the morning thinking of good things too. I love my snooze button because that gives me 10 minutes to be in a very relaxed state and just imagine and set the intention for a great day. Before your feet even hit the floor, you’ve put yourself in a great energetic place to begin your day. This small habit can make a huge difference in your days and definitely bring a more joyous life to you!
